President Harry II Beep Empty President Harry II Beep

Post by Jaywalker Wed Aug 26, 2009 8:03 am

I've had a President Harry II knocking around spare for a while, so I decided to give it a go homebase (it's a lot smaller than my Harrier Homebase and will make more room on the desk here).

It works well enough, but the channel change beep really annoyed me and my Mrs. - it even had the cat heading to another room.

Is there a way to switch it off? (I've seen somewhere a trick with the mic buttons, but my mic hasn't got any).

Also, any known mods for this one?

Cheers
Gary

Oh man....

The newer ones can have the bleep stopped when you:

Turn on the radio and have the mike DWN pressed.

This small thing cost President 30,000$ to impliment on there radios after someone on here proved it was not the " key feature " that they believed it was.

Known Mods, well there is a thing.

Move the jumper and cut the wire:

A 26515-26955
B 26955-27405
C 27415-27855

But loose the legals totally, aint worth it and really not an idea that is a good one. Leave it as it is, try and borrow a mike with a button on the top, see if it works and if not then you need the newer revision ASC Harry and it can be killed for sure the bleep.

Regards

It's a shocker of a feature for sure - Ok mobile, but here with an extension speaker, terrible.

It is the ASC version and was bought from Truck King about 8 months ago (had to wait for delivery as the stock came directly from the factory, so it should be the new version).

I'll keep an eye out for a button mic.

Thanks for the info.

Cheers

They have them here on German ebay at the moment for 12euro, or see someone with a jackson II, jfk II, walker or this series and then there is not any troubles will work

It's a shocking feature to say the least, and wonder who the person was to break there bubble. Truth is, on the walker it was a mess and indeed 30k was the cost to make it able to be silenced, software induced.

It makes you wonder how much field testing they do - not a lot by the sound of it.

Same goes for mobile phones - anyone who has used a LG Chocolate will vouch for that.

There's a mic listed on eBay here too - just checking with the seller to confirm it has the buttons.

Oh man thats another story indeed.

I was there in Balaruc with President, as well as Albert Betrana the inventor of ASC, Oscar the technical man, Joel the engineer and the owner of President in the lab. There was some tests made on the ASC on a Walker and it was all over the place. Seems a mess up with Uniden, they reset it to different parameters so all needed to be re-done by Cam the other engineer there.

Lets not get started about finals on Jackson II blowing especially with antrons and static, oh man.

I can't say that I'm a fan of the ASC either.

It does receive very well (although the internal speaker is average) and the TX audio is very good on the standard mic (a couple of stations thought I was on a HF rig).

Mine was about £90 new, but I see Knights now have them at £119 - must be paying for the name, as I fail to see how they're worth that.

I'll let you know how I get on with turning the damn beeps off.

Cheers.

The ASC when it works well is excellent. It was designed real smartly and i can tell you that the inventor of this is a smart guy indeed. TX on all the Pressies is better on AM, thats a fact. Always shar[er, stronger and clearer.

JFK II is the same, and the Michael II is the best of all on the FM band, but cut over to AM and the difference is hard to explain.

President made i think 3 price increases this year so far to dealers, they have put up the cost quite a lot really. Sure, some factory prices are higher now with the $ v Euro but not a lot.

Pay for the name, pay for the Uniden smartness and also pay for the 5 year guarantee unless you modify it of course Suspect

I remember about 30 years ago ,you would be in bed with the sound down low only for a tweetie pie mic ( multi tone mic ) shreaking through the speaker and have you jumping for the af knob .Another thing with them was the splatter that they sent out over numerous channels .Where they the good old days lol .

Hope everyone is keeping well and playing radio with the dark nights arriving quickly .

I'm having the Mids put on my York 869 next week, the President will be gone in favour of the York, and peace will be restored.

Thats bad news indeed, but the York with the mids will be excellent. I have an 869 here with the mids and a "lovely" sounding 5 tone. Woohoo Cybernet

As much a I try, I can't seem to get on with the newer radios - I've had the York for a few months, but it's not much use just being a straight 40. I should have it back from the Rig Doc by the end of next week with the Mids on. I was using a Harrier CBHQ, with the Mids on, up until I tried the Harry - nice radio and the same radio inside as the York, but the York's knobs and switches feel better.

The Harry II will find a home mobile, where the "Beep" feature may prove of use (or at least be less of a burden).

I've seen your 869 on Youtube - looks great.

Cheers

Hi Gary

Thanks and yes, the 869 is a Hans Modded one. Came from the UK with 80 channels, and no bleep. Then a bleep was added, and a push in and out switch to allow on and off bleep. Works well now, and if there are some more conditions to UK will try it and hear how the bleep sends, oh man hehe

I've been getting some very good reports back on how the Harry II sounds and the RX is good too - apart from the beep and the ASC on mine (which makes people on less than a solid S9 sound like Norman Collier's act - remember him?), it's a great little radio.

Cheers
