Hmmmmmmmmmmm This thread is not fair.
I MUST get the 20 meter mobile antenna I got for Christmas out & SWR'ed & get mobile on 20 myself.
We were in Great Yarmouth this afternoon, the drive takes around 40 minutes & 2 meters was dead other than for someone keying up on the local repeater. Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad
I do have a 400 watt linear that runs at 50 watts, but I would rather get a smaller one to run of the FT817.
I'm also looking at possibly getting one of those 10, 6, 2 & 70 Cm mobile antennas. I love operating 6 meters, 70Cm is a great band & 10 meters needs more users than it gets.

Lol, You best had get up the hill or down by the sea in the car on 20m Alan. The car is great as you can get the best location and it give's me time away from the other half... (lol).
I did not do much yesterday as I ended up sorting out the face off kit out as it was doing my head in!!! The radio is now in the boot and the face is on the dash.
I have never tried 6m work yet. What's it like mate? I will have to see how to convert my Sirio 4000 to work on 10m... We can try and make a contact one weekend if you like?

All the best,

Dave

6 meters is called the magic band & when skip is up there's nothing like it. There's a well known character from Poland (I think it is.) He runs all homemade kit at 1.5 watts on SSB mobile & I thought I was doing well at 2.5 watts into Poland Embarassed Embarassed
When skip is really good double skips are possible & thus the USA probable, even on 10 watts mobile.
I'll put a couple of the band specific groups on a amateur thread. as the 6 meter forum & group are well worth finding if you have an interest in 6.
Just after I passed my foundation exam I was given a six meter set up after I expressed an interest in the band.
I have a Yaesu FT690, a linear, a 6 meter atu & a 3 ele beam. I also have a 6 meters on my tri band co linear, my CP-6 HF antenna plus via a mobile whip. My 817 & my FT857 are also 6 meter capable.
