Re: Yaesu VX-7R Handheld
Well mine has come!!! It will probably take 2 years to work out how it works...
Lots of functions on it. Sure you will need some of them sometime... It even tells the temp. So I know if I'm cold!!!
Will have a play with it and once I can transmit in the next month I will do a small review on the radio...

Re: Yaesu VX-7R Handheld
Yep, Anadins and a nice long time to sit and read thats the best way. Same as my FTM10e that landed here also, a used one and has a huge manual and more menus to shake a stick at so seems there is not any point to go out for the next 9 months as reading the manual

Re: Yaesu VX-7R Handheld
Had mine for about 2 years & love it.
The Yahoo owners group is a good place to belong to. Lots of info. If you have a question it's been asked & answered before.

I nearly forgot don't buy the barometer for the 7R.
The VX-7R is waterproof that means it's case is waterproof that means that to get a barometer to work you need to drill a hole in the case.
The VX-7R is now not waterproof
Also when working the 7r hard if the audio from the speaker sounds weired. That due to the fact that the VX-7R has got hot, the air pressure inside the case has changed & the speaker is no longer working the way it should. So open the case let it cool a little & it's back to normal.
The display can also look weired when the 7r gets hot.
The leather case & hand mike are good buys due to the heat generated during heavy use.

Why would you need to drill a hole to get the barometer to work, having used the vx-7r with the su-1 unit fitted everything worked as it should without having to threaten it with my black & decker

Re: Yaesu VX-7R Handheld
A barometer works using air pressure. The battery pack is waterproof & thus air tight & the barometer unit fits behind the battery, thus it has no pressure to work on other than that within the waterproof compartment unless you drill a hole in the case.
Also the radio heats up when used & that increases air pressure within the radio to the extent that it will distort the speaker & will thus alter (dramatically) the barometer reading.
The above is well documented on VX-7r owner sites.
