Question for Simon re handheld SSB
If I am understanding things correctly SSB is now legal in some countries on the FCC frequencies. If that is correct & if the power limit is only 4 watts, then are any manufacturers considering SSB handhelds?
With CB & the 10 meter SSB frequencies being so close, I can see there being a worth while market for handheld production.

Yes Indeed SSB Is now Legal in some EU countries such as Germany, Liechtenstein and others. 4w YES is the power at the moment, however there is a new EU Protocol in the making that will allow 12w SSB, as tests have shown the chances to TV troubles is not as wide as some people had imagined.
I asked Albrecht and President about a SSB Handheld, President told "not enough profit" and Albrecht had theres, the re badged Dragon SS201s but now not produced since rOHs. Intek told they could maybe offer a different version of the H520+ But at the moment, has not come and have not heard anything more about them

Re: Question for Simon re handheld SSB
Thanks, I knew there use to be a couple available in the states & a quick google showed that these are VERY sought after now. So I did wonder if between the new market & the potential 10 meter amateur market if there would be anything in the pipeline, especially as with new battery technology 5 watts is easily achievable as a realistic power output without dozens of AA cells running flat in 30 seconds.

Latest info here: GREEN LIGHT GIVEN FOR 12w SSB here in Germany. Not sure when it starts, but seems to become legal

Re: Question for Simon re handheld SSB
Brilliant. Thanks for that. I don't use 11 or 12 meters, but a 10 meter one sounds great, especially with the sun spot activity hopefully being on the up.
What sort of money do the AE201S go for? Just out of curiosity & with Christmas around the corner.

Re: Question for Simon re handheld SSB
Ouch, I paid that for my FT817.simon007 wrote: go for around 200£ at the club
A new one for around £200 when they come out will be reasonable, but a single band radio that's 10 years or more old is never going to be worth more than £100, not even a FT690II.
The price that CB'ers pay for radios is insane, I recently brought both a 10 meter Belcom LS120 & a Ham Int on 10 meters for £100, yet I see radios I would not pay £20 for going for £100 plus because it's a CB & not a 10 meter radio.

Hello Simon. Kev from Edinburgh here. Do you have a Url for Bell South. Do they have any pictures of the Ssb handhelds. Also I have 2x Jopix Ssb Handhelds expanded to 400ch how much do you think they are worth.
Cheers Kev
