I tell you, sure it looks a little from time ago but this is not any slouch at all.

The RX and the TX is incredible will a whole host of DSP options for receive and transmit, plus the features of the mike eq and pre-recorded DX calls and the like.

Still studying it here, there is some way to go but its a nice radio indeed

Hi Simon
How does the 450 compare with dedicated CB's on the CB band, be that either FM or SSB?
I've read a it few times that a CB only radio is better than a ham radio

Thanks

Personally have used the FT450 and FT857D on CB in the distant past as not own either now, and the 857d was better when the NFM was adjusted. Sure, think CB is dedicated for CB and an amateur radio not but can be enabled there to work.

For me, I'd use a CB to be honest

Thanks Simon,

The FT450 videos you did came across as showing the 450 as a quality radio, I think I'll try one at some point, I haven't got into HF yet and spend most of my time on VHF, UHF here is very quiet and as I'm in a valley I always find the range very poor compared to VHF.

I watched a lot of your videos and found it very interesting, the CB ones brought back some memories of the magic you get on CB. I'm now trying to work out a way to make a Sirio 827 blend in with the sky Yaesu FT 450 & FT450AT Icon_rolleyes

People keep writing off the CB, telling always its dead and nothing on air. When there are conditions then its always busy here with all stations around the UK and all people on air for years and years. The only other idea is a 7 metre wire antenna, they make them here and around 50euro delivered and work 26965-27991 and can be put as a horizontal. Not as good as a vertical in most respects but gets you on the air and looks like a washing line for the blackbirds thrown into it also

A Zepp cut for CB would be almost invisible if you used the right ladder line, I have a friend who uses one on EC from his flat to another & no one seems to see it. I also use a Zepp as my kite lifted antenna as it keeps the radiating element as high as possible & I use cheap stereo type ladder line that is almost invisible from a few yards away.
An off centre fed dipole is also a good choice as it is in effect two inverted L's fed from ground with a good earthing point at the feed point, so is lower on noise than most other choices & again if you use the right ladder line it's almost invisible.
