New AM/FM/SSB Standard Being Discussed Empty New AM/FM/SSB Standard Being Discussed

Post by simon007 Wed Dec 03, 2008 1:11 am

ETSI at a meeting in October, which also ETSI members ECBF (European CB Federation - "ECBF-Brussels") participated, were more choices for the new AM / FM / SSB standard in order to make sure that legal CB radios do not interfere with digital TV reception can cause.

Already some time ago was at the request of the German Federal Network Agency with the participation of the European ECBF Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) decided that a new technical standard for CB radios with AM, FM and SSB to develop.

So far SSB equipment must be tested twice. Even after the FM standard equipment 300135 and the AM / SSB standard 300433 and other standards. This is for the CB-time producer and expensive.

That this new standard can be developed, needed some persuasion from various European telecommunications administrations. Finland and Austria opposed AM / SSB in the CB radio categorically because it is a recommendation of the CEPT (Conference of European postal administrations) indicates that only 40 channels FM suggests.

As a compromise had therefore agreed that this standard is being created, but the respective individual countries still can put on separately, whether they are AM / SSB CB radio to allow or not.

The new standard will be tested only once and it is the latest state of the art. This process is quite complicated and lengthy. To create the standard was mandated by an English expert who helps that the standard "waterproof" and also the concerns of the SSB can satisfy critics.

At a meeting in October 2008 in the ETSI headquarters in Sophia-Antipolis near Nice (southern France) was a paper, which describes exactly how AM / FM / SSB equipment can be tested whether they interference in digital television receivers cause can. The "fear" is SSB from the previous time justified where the AM or SSB radios a television screen for "overturning" could bring.

After the paper was adopted, will soon be more detailed tests at the Federal Network Agency in Meßlabor in Kolberg (in Berlin) will take place. This will include representatives of ECBF and the largest European manufacturers such as STABO / president and CTE (parent company of ALAN / Albrecht) participate, including the company Icom (manufacturer of amateur and operating radio) sits in the working group.

If these tests to prove that it is possible, approved CB radios with SSB to build, the television no longer interfere, will someday complete AM / FM / SSB standard for CB radios completed and put into effect.

If it shows that there is so also in practice no problems there, chances are good that even countries that have been with AM or SSB nothing could begin, so that friends can be.

The fact that the DCBO member of the ECBF (Brussels), which is in turn a voting member of ETSI, there is a direct contact and exchange of information on the places where the important decisions are made.

The CB radio operator at the base can now eg in Germany, France, Switzerland, Belgium and other countries legally with SSB radio. If the new standard comes into force, chances are good that one day even the use of SSB in Austria and other places could be allowed.

Today's news is this!

The same should happen with EN 300 433-2, but the differences of power in Europe suggested to a deeper reworking to increase the output power from 1 Watt to 4 Watts in AM and 4 Watts PEP to 12 Watts PEP in SSB that would be a good result for whole Europe.

4w AM is now allowed as an option in some Inteks, named as PD band. So, has become generally excepted. The next matter is the SSB power being allowed to 12w,, and this is simply now a matter of time, and not if.

AND AN INTERESTING CONCLUSION FROM THE ETSI WAS:

PAGE 47: A3.2.1.4

Conclusion: While conventional wisdom suggests that higher power SSB and AM equipment will cause interfearance to domestic equipment, both testing in the Kolberg Laboratory and that described in the present document suggests that the power level suggested (12w SSB PEP, 4W AM PEP, 4W FM PEP) will not cause undue interfearance in a range of domestic and in-vehicle systems.

Need the ETSI report, drop me an email unless Dave can tell me a way to send a PDF file to the system Embarassed
