Re: Anyone done the M3 test?
Doing mine in 2 weeks so will let you know. Looks easy to be fair. Don't forget when doing the online test you get all the frequency allocation chart and wavelength/frequency graph.
We should schedule a 20m group net when we all get our ticket.

Re: Anyone done the M3 test?
I love 11m. Always have. Just pisses me off when the bands open for like 1hr if we're lucky when we're low on the cycle.
20m is mostly open. In my view its worth doing the M3 if it means you can work dx more often.

Re: Anyone done the M3 test?
Today was the first part of the M3 and it started off with a bang... the bang not someone wiring a radio the wrong way but two cars hitting each other... unfortunately one was Phil's car. So we were two members down on the course but we're just glad everyone is ok!
The day was mostly the practical side of things... very good indeed.
Tomorrow will be another matter as there is a lot of the boring stuff like safety and licencing regulations. Then it's the test so I will be sitting real close to Andy the swat and peering over his shoulder ever so slightly!!!

Re: Anyone done the M3 test?
I'm currently on a advanced course & my 9 year old daughter passed her foundation a few weeks back.
Re: Anyone done the M3 test?
Well done to both of you and welcome to the forum.
Please keep us updated on how the advanced course goes and if it's very hard?
Look forward to the contact somewhere on the bands...
Dave
I will open a new thread for any posts to do with the advanced course.

Re: Anyone done the M3 test?
The advanced is a very big step up from the Intermediate & basically the old RAE.
The maths is pretty much A level stuff but thats only a few questions. The basic electronics is a small step from Intermediate with calculations & a deeper understanding expected, which goes for most of it, a small step up in many ways, but far more advanced in the way you are expected to understand it.

Re: Anyone done the M3 test?
Have decided to take the plunge at the first given opportunity in the new year, looking forward to it.
I am lucky in able to have home study from G0 friends and to be honest, anybody who has an interest in radio and on 11M right now shouldnt take too much studying to be able to pass the exam.
My main concern was that I have never liked examination situations but have been rest assured that its not that big a deal to just go to the centre and sit the exam.
Its not like its a subject you dont like !
Seems a shame to have the FT857D and only use it on 11 Meters !

Re: Anyone done the M3 test?
Go for it mate. It was so easy... The only thing I would say is think about 11m! If your using 2m or a band all the time the locals will know you from the 11m band if you keep using it... Could cause trouble but I am not sure as I have not been on the 11m band since.
Just a thought,
Dave

Re: Anyone done the M3 test?
I'll probably end up on 20 and 40 meters most of the time should I pass.
I do know a few local G0's who have said sometimes they will be willing to supervise me on their equipment as well giving me chance to use a bit more power at times.
But on 20M , Dave has made some cracking contacts on legal M3 poweralone.
I know a lot of amateurs use 11M but they are risking a lot doing it,
