Hi,

I've retired from the hurly burly of working for a living and moved to a village in the south of Spain. I spent the last year in getting the villa sorted out, furnished, decorated and so on and now I can get onto the important stuff, such as setting up the amateur radio station Reciprocal Licensing In Spain Icon_biggrin . However, as part of this I need to get a pucker Spanish licence but I don't know where to go to get one. Reciprocal Licensing In Spain Icon_sad

So anybody out there have any ideas about how I can go about getting an official licence?

Best wishes

Lissa

Hi

I had to get a HAREC document from Ofcom before the Dutch Radio Authority ( Agentshcap Telecom - I still smile when I read the initials ) so if you dont have one already, I would advise getting it.

http://www.ofcom.org.uk/static/archive/ra/publication/ra_info/ra247.htm

A HAREC or Harmonised Amateur Radio
Examination Certificate is available from a number of countries including the
UK. The scheme is aimed at radio amateurs who wish to operate abroad for longer
periods. Issuing of foreign licences under this scheme will now be a relatively
simple procedure. Only countries that have implemented the appropriate CEPT
Recommendation (T/R 61-02) will be covered by this scheme. These countries will
be able to issue mutually recognised HAREC's to anyone who has passed a relevant
national examination. The UK will issue HAREC's to anyone who holds a current
full UK Licence, has ever held a full licence or has passed the relevant examinations.
There is no fee for a HAREC.

I had a quick look around and found what I guess is the Spanish RSGB

http://www.ure.es/foreign-visitors.html

Also I did a search on qrz.com and typed in Almeria ( I googled your callsign and saw a post that showed that name ) and could see some G stations in the area, maybe worth seeing if you can contact them for their suggestions.

Good Luck in EA land, maybe we can work on the air someday.

Update - looks like you do need the HAREC certificate for EA.

http://www.ure.es/general-info/417-licensing-and-basic-info-for-visitor-hams-.html

Amateur Authorization
Any person wishing to obtain an amateur licence must prove their
knowledge regarding radio matters and radio regulations. Examinations
are carried out twice a year, usually in April and October.
After
passing the exam, an Operator Certificate is issued, upon receipt of
which you may apply for the amateur authorization. This authorization
includes the callsign. Download aplication
If you have a foreign amateur licence and your country has implemented
the HAREC Certificate (CEPT Recommendation T/R 62-02), you must first
obtain this certificate from your Government and then apply for an EA
callsign at the PTO of the province where you are living or you are
moving to.
The amateur authorization must be renewed every five years but the authorization fee is only paid the first time (see below).

Hi,
Many, many thanks for the info it really is very much appreciated, so now I contact Ofcom and request a HAREC Certificate I guess.

One of the things I've found about Spain is that they dearly love lots of paperwork. No matter what it is you have to get certificates from at least two other departments and you can't buy anything of value without having the correct gov'mt paperwork. In addition they flaunt the EU regulations and charge import duty if you buy something within the EU but outside Spain. If I want a car I can't buy it in Holland and bring it here to Spain without paying 18% tax on top of other charges (not VAT BTW) as part of getting it put onto Spanish Registration.

Ah well such is life. At least it's mostly cheaper to live here and it's warm and sunny most of the time. :-)

Best wishes

Lissa

PS Don't know how I'm going to find any Hams around here. Listening has so far resulted in nothing. I can't find any local radio shops on the Internet either. L.

Hi,

BTW the info on QRZ.com was in error. How my brothers name got on there I know not but I've corrected it now and the address as well as other details. I'll kill the so-and-so when I get hold of him.

Reciprocal Licensing In Spain Empty Spanish Reciprocal Licence - 3 years on

Post by EA7/G8AZC Wed Dec 04, 2013 12:29 am

Well here we are after 3 years and I still haven't got my license. The process is horrendously problematic and the bureaucrats requirements are overly extensive and want prohibitive amounts of info (equipment models & serial no's, antenna makers and models, mast makers and models, layout plans of my property showing mast positions in both plan and elevation and on and on and on) which I was close to completing. Now they have stopped all applications whilst they rehash the system and that is taking time to do (3 months so far). Crying or Very sad
