Watson Multi Ranger 9
On Sunday evening I ordered an antenna from W & S via ebay & it arrived earlier today (Tuesday,) That's a little more than 24 hours longer than it would have taken me to get from my local Amateur Radio shop & at £5.95 postage probably cheaper too, as Mikes shop (GMS Electronics,) is just over 45 minutes drive from me.
I have to say I am first impressions are VERY good. It really feels well made & a quick check on the MFJ 207 shows it resonates where it should.
Until this antenna arrived I was unsure if I had made the right decision as I like single band mobile whips & at £40 this is never going to be a high quality antenna, but it certainly feels like a well made, solid & good quality bit of kit & having heard many good reports of these Watson antennas in the past I am looking forward to getting this antenna on the air.
For those who do not know these antennas use a jump lead & a telescopic whip to gain resonance, so they should be resonant on more than just the amateur bands with a bit of experimentation.

I have one and have rarely used it .The design is similar to the outbacker ant and the overall lenght is not that much shorter .Bang for buck it's good value .

Re: Watson Multi Ranger 9
First impressions are certainly good. I am using it on 10 & 80 meters only, this means with a jump lead for 10 & without for 80.
If you have seen the old design with a telescopic whip as per the average transistor radio , the newer design has a two piece whip where the top part is held in place with a grub screw, you still need to change whip length depending upon band & which part of that band, but at least this newer design does not get vibration adjusted when being used mobile.
I am thinking of getting one of those Watson mobile matching transformers to see if it will give me more band spread on the bands.

Re: Watson Multi Ranger 9
Well I bought a Multi Ranger 9 and then another, nocked up a home made balun and voila, a multi band tapped dipole that appears to be 1-3 S points better than my Diamond CP6.

I must admit I have been thinking of doing the exact same thing for a portable 80 - 10 meter dipole that I can use off a tripod any where, indoors or out.
