DISASTER HELP!!!!
HAD A STORM PASS OVER TODAY SO I RUSHED IN TO UNPLUG MY ANTENNAS FROM MY RADIOS AND GOT A SHOCK FROM ONE OF THE COAX PLUGS WHICH WAS CONNECTED TO MY JACKSON 2 WHICH NOW WILL ONLY POWER UP BUT NOT TRANSMIT SO THINK THE OUTPUTS HAVE GONE AND MY WATSON POWER SUPPLY WORKS BUT THE FAN IS RUNNING FLAT OUT ALL THE TIME. DOES ANYBODY KNOW HOW MUCH THE OUTPUTS WILL BE FOR THE JACKO?(PLEASE NO MICHAEL JACKSON JOKES ) AND SECONDLY WHAT WILL BE WRONG WITH THE POWER SUPPLY?

Re: DISASTER HELP!!!!
Hello There, thats the Hans one? He maybe is the best man to replace them but would mean returning the radio either direct or via me if needed. hm-funk@t-online.de is his direct email.
The scenario you had is IDENTICAL almost to ALL the finals issue with the JKII. Before storm radio works, after storm no output power. Seems the standard static/electrical issue that hans told Uniden and they ignored.
Power-supply, sadly not know that one

Re: DISASTER HELP!!!!
Thanks for the advice simon and yes it is the Hans modded jackson. Luckly for me i have a cb shop(knights) only 10 miles from me so i'm hoping he can sort it out for me to avoid posting. I believe it needs a RD70HHF1 mosfet at around £30 and then the cost of fitting . Looks like i will need him to check out the power supply to....

Re: DISASTER HELP!!!!
Hi Paul, yes thats the one RD70HHF1. It seems that when there is a storm around this is the weakest link on the radio and trust me you are not alone in this area. Many work, there is a storm and then nothing at all.
Powersupply, seems also a good idea at the same time

Would I be right in guess you had an antron or imax connected to the Jacko?

Re: DISASTER HELP!!!!
Well, almost all the Jacko radios that have kissed the dust are connected to either Imax or Antron. These antennas have static issues and thus seem to break the radio. Hope that the radio is back now and once more blowing smoke Paul

Re: DISASTER HELP!!!!
Interesting comment on the Antron - I've noticed a static noise on mine that seems to go after an over, or two, of TX - apparently it's a known thing called the "frying pan" effect or something?
Steve (Cherokee) and myself, have both installed Ugly Baluns on our A99's in order to combat RFI issues, but I've also noticed a reduction in the static and a reduction in the SWR too.
Ugly balun on an Antron 99

Re: DISASTER HELP!!!!
Yes the Antron and Imax have some issues with static. Watch the s meter rise when there is rain about, and fall when it is dry. Same as when warm there is more noise than when there is cold.
If you can add the FS99 tip this makes the static a lot less, but is true that most Jacko's here died on these two antennas than on any others. Not as people will say there are more antrons and imax around, just they died more.
I use now a 1/2 Venom @70m to the base of the antenna and the static is gone.
So, word to the wise. Be careful with a Jacko II and Imax or Antron

Re: DISASTER HELP!!!!
I think the Fire-Up conversion is about £20 - I was thinking about ordering one, but your info about helping with the static has made it far more likely that I will.

Re: DISASTER HELP!!!!
I have one on my antron when i use it and it makes a difference both locally and also with the DX. Groundwave improved here no end and the static was a lot better. Mine was from the USA, and was a 7/8 wave wound one, it cost a lot in post and customs but works well indeed. Sure it is a hell of a difference than the standard 1/2 but also with my antenna high in the air it works well so am lucky.
Best Wishes

Re: DISASTER HELP!!!!
Can you remember where you got it? - Knights are showing no stock and I can't find anyone else that lists it - eBay aren't showing any either.
I also e-mailed Walcott CB in the US, but no reply.

Re: DISASTER HELP!!!!
Thanks for the reply Simon - Truck King tell me that they're expecting stock from the USA in about a month, but even with the best will in the World, delivery times are prone to slip back for months (or years!).
So, if you do hear of a supplier, I'd be most appreciative of the info.
Regards
Gary

Re: DISASTER HELP!!!!
I think one of these could be on the cards for me. I was thinking of putting up an imax 2000 instead of the antron but this looks a cheaper alternative.

Re: DISASTER HELP!!!!
The couple of us have found the A99 to be quite a dirty antenna - mine was vastly improved by making and installing the Ugly Balun (SWR and Static down too).
If you're putting less than 50w into it then you're probably OK RFI wise - I suspect the tuning ring section at the base of the antenna is to blame, as surely the only way to really tune an antenna is to alter it's physical length.
I have to use the A99 as a Silver Rod would bend in no time, as the QTH can get very windy. Having said that, I've had some really good contacts on it this week including North Sweden (1200 Miles), France, Spain, Poland, Switzerland and Slovakia.
Above was using a Stalker 9 and 100w.
Looking forward to trying the Fire-up - fingers-crossed Firestik are still making them.
Cheers
