I'm going in for the first day of a foundation course tomorrow.
Any advice Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes lol!
I have the practical elements next week, the 20 meter contact part is worrying me. Should I use the FT817, with mag mount & mobile whip like last time?, or go back to the Miracle whip or use the roach rod & wire or should I take a my Cody Kite & use a kite lifted antenna ?
Also only being a M0 is it hard moving all the way up to up to an M6? jocolor

It's a sit at the back day, as I want to watch someone else doing it. I'm setting up a new radio club at a school & I want to look at the material from the back as it's presented & think about how I'm going to cut it up into lunch time sized chunks at the school.
I normally do the HF contact, as it is recommended that 20 meters is used & a normal 20 meter you are 5 & 9 & your number is 012 is not acceptable.
Last foundation course I used my mag mount, 20 meter whip & 817, total cost to me under £250 & made 3 really good eastern European contacts in the 20 minutes I spent waiting, using my 5 watts.

We already have several young amateurs in the City & a very active junior section to the local amateur radio club with several members, one of them being my 10 year old daughter who are licenced & 2 or 3 of them have 2E0's.
Locally we have several Scout groups who have had foundation courses provided by our club, with one group now only having 2 or 3 scouts who are not licenced.
Locally anyone of any age or disability has free training available to all levels if they want it.
