G6HL
A local club is looking for new members to help them run a radio hut at a local museum, so I went over to the coast to meet them yesterday.
If anyone missed Aprils RadCom. The North Norfolk ARC have been given a station belonging to the Silent Key G6HL. He built the station in the 1950's & used it until his death in 1997.
The club now also has the call sign to go with the radio.
I have never seen anything like it. This shack is about 7 foot tall & a similar width.

Well done for joining in Daxi. This is just what the hobby needs to get more people involved.

Re: G6HL
The most amazing thing about the G6HL rig is that it has two switches built into the deck that connect to a wooden wheel that has notches cut into it's circumference edge. so that like an old barrel organ when the switches are thrown it either sends out a CQ or a CQ DX call.
Re: G6HL
PS.
Like many others I cut my radio teeth playing with radios like the 19 set & recognised one in the museum instantly. I was then asked if I was sure it was a 19 set & the Russian writing on the controls was pointed out.
It seems these rigs were made in Canada (I think he said) after the war & sold to the Russians who had no radios for their Tanks.
Anyone know what the Russian for Echo Charlie or 48 meters is ?

Re: G6HL
Hello, just to give an update of what happened yesterday, during the week ruuning up to the launch various problems had arose with the station and antennas, on Saturday for all those looking on 80m we did not end up there, due to a problem with the station which we think was the 80m crystal so we ended up on 40m around 7,050, the station was being warmed up from about 10am ready for the lauch at 11.30, Mrs Cox and her grandson Christopher arrived and were given a personal tour of the shack and museum by our PRO Tony G4FAI, Bill G4NRE was twiddling all the knobs on the massive G6HL station, at 11.30 Bill through the switches and the station sprang into life, qsos were made with stations form England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Eire and Germany in the follwing hour and was closed down for lunch at 12.45.
