Mills on the air 10th & 11th May.
For the second year I'm taking part from Hardley wind pumping station or Werrymans Way Windmill as it's often known. The call sign is GB0WWW.
Hardley Mill is about one mile from the nearest mains electricity & stands beside both Werrymans Way long distance footpath & the river Yare. It is surrounded by typically Broadland country side. It being low, green & waterlogged pretty much as far as you can see.
The mill it's self, like many Broadland mills is in fact not a mill but a wind powered drainage pumping station. As I understand it a few years ago Hardley was a wreak. It was deralict hollow tower & leaning dangerously.
The friends of Hardley mill have done a supurb job & this year they hope to have the last remaining Norfolk Werry moored beside the mill to add to the occasion.
The station it's self is jointly run by Harlow ARC, Norfolk ARC & The RAF ARC.
For those who have never operated from a site that is both waterlogged & one mile from mains electricity have never lived as not only is water natures very own linear amplifier but the lack of electrical background noise makes working 80 meters amazing.
Last year we worked a Danish station who was running over a KW & giving us 5 & 9 at 30 + dB Whilst our 100 watts gave him 5 & 8 with broadcast quality audio !!!!
Anyone else taking part ??
