Icom 706 Mk2 Carrier offset freq for changing audio.
Icom 706 Mk2 Carrier offset freq for changing audio.
Ok, has anyone who owns the 706 Mk2 adjusted the carrier offset to adjust the SSB audio to suit their voice.
It doesn't seem very well documented in the manual and there's little info on it. Mines set at "0" the default. Unfortunately I don't have another SSB receiver to allow me to play with it and successfully monitor it.
If you look at eham it seems most have the following settings (for the heil ic type mic)
Quote "As it turns out, it has drastically improved the audio compared to the stock mic."
SSB Config:
(M2)Mic Gain = 3 - 4
Compression = 10%
(M6)Carrier Offset = 110...
(SSB) You might want to transmit into a dummy load with your 706 and listen to your audio via your QTH Rig to optimize settings for your individual "voice print"."
Quote "Bob Heil adjusted mine for best voice quality by raising the SSB carrier to +150 Hz. Mic gain at 5 and compression adjusted according to the Icom manual. I get nothing but "great audio" reports".
I know the Icom 706's sound pretty damn fine out of the box with the default settings, but according to reports either adding a Heil Ic-type mic or adjusting the carrier offset freq to suit your voice can "Really make this radio sound like one 5 times the price and bring the 706 alive".
Interested if anyone's had a play yet, what settings do you use ? etc etc.
Dave, you must have twiddled !!!

Think the settings will be different for everyone. Also will depend on what mic you have... Not sure as I have never tried it but I can see a test day in the nr future...
