GX2OA, Lancashire Day special event station
The Lancashire Rose
November
27th is Lancashire Day and at 21:00 Lancastrians around the world get
together to celebrate and toast their Duke, HM The Queen. The Southport
& District Amateur Radio Club would like to invite all Lancastrian
Amateur Radio operators to join with them in celebrating this annual
event.
Special Event Station
The club will
operate a special event station from the market town of Ormskirk, in
the south of the county, between 20:00 and 22:00 under the club's
callsign, GX2OA. We would like to encourage as many Lancastrian
operators as possible to 'sign in' during the event and make contact
with the station. All stations making contact will receive a special
QSL card in return.
At 21:00, at the same time as many other
events around the country, the Lancashire Day proclamation will be read
out followed by the Toast to the Duke of Lancaster, HM The Queen.
Where is Lancashire these days?
Real Lancashire &
Lancashire County Council
borders
Many
people would have you believe that Lancashire is a lot smaller county
than it used to be. The green area on the map is the area administered
by Lancashire County Council, whilst the red line in the boundary of
the real county of Lancashire.
The fact is that the boundary
of real Lancashire has not changed since it was established in 1100AD.
The many boundary changes that have been made since the 1970s have
simply been administrative boundary changes, the actual boundary of the
county of Lancashire itself was not changed.
This means that if you live in:
...you can all be proud to be Lancastrians, even if another County Council, or Administrative Authority, governs you locally.
To see whether you live in real Lancashire, visit the Association of British Counties' Gazzetteer of British Place Names and search for your town, or village.
