Yes i own a Yaesu ft7800
Hi Zamo
Yes i own a Yaesu FT7800 and i use it mobile.
I use a dual band and i also use a mobilite Headset mike setup.
The FT7800 is a brilliant radio and i again use the G4HFQ Software to program the rig.
I have found at times the rigs a little complicated to use mobile so i tend to run the rig
in memory mode with all the bands, frequencies and CTCSS tones set up for you.
The receive ....SH*T HOT.
I think they are an ideal first rig as long as the person understands that it is a menu driven rig
like most are now days.
If you do decide to buy one spend the extra money and get the programming lead and software
Leads are available off Ebay and software from G4HFQ.
If anyone wants help programming the rig drop me a line.
Cheers Andy G6OHM

Hi
I am affraid not mate , i just checked and they are different.
The lead for the 817 will work with 857,897,847 and i think ft100.
Regarding the ft7800 i have mine programed up for all sorts of things like local council,marine,446mhz, air band.Plus othe interesting freqs
All in rx only. There is a mod to wide band the rig but i have not done it as i got the rig from new .

Re: yaesu FT-7800E
Congrats on the radio, they are indeed a nice one. I am thinking of another one for the summer, but that seems too far off now Hope you find it as good as they are, nice receive indeed and tx sound is good also

Re: yaesu FT-7800E
spent an hour setting up the radio, has to be the most easiest rig to set up.after giving up on the 817 i was exspecting the 7800 to be the same but it isnt.set the freq, power, split and ctcss and name and save, takes about 20secs .i havnt read all of the book yet so not sure on all the features.i think i can adjust the brightess because i will need to,its too bright at the mo.the rig is in great condistion never been used mobile, all the screws and bracket still wrapped up and the screen cover still on.the rx is spot on and wide rx is a bonus.havnt had a tx report yet but access to all my local repeater is great.highly recomend this rig .

Re: yaesu FT-7800E
I use an FT-7800 mobile. It's a great radio and so easy to use in memory mode. I use a short mag-mounted dual-band aerial.

Re: yaesu FT-7800E
its one rig i think i will keep for ever,it gets turned on at 7:30am and is on all day untill i get home at 5pm.i have 2 memory banks set.first is all my local repeaters and s20 and the second is for all the freqs i have saved from the wide band rx.so if i choose no banks it scans all memories or set bank 1 or 2 to scan presets.
