At it simplest they are just a random length of wire. But be warned Random wires are $h!7 with EMC, as they radiate from the bottom & are voltage rather than Inductance loaded.
I'm presuming you want to TX with it.
There are some very good, efficient & simple to build wire antennas around.
Give us some more information on bands you want as I have a couple of excellent & small 80 meter designs.
